Tokopedia reclaims top spot from Shopee as most visited e-commerce site in Indonesia – TECH WIRE

 

For the second quarter of 2019, Tokopedia reclaims the title of Indonesia’s most frequented e-commerce site. Tokopedia’s monthly online traffic hit 147 million visits, while Shopee came in second with 126 million visits. Since the first quarter of 2020, Shopee has constantly ranked top on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Last year, Shopee was the top downloaded shopping app in six of the region’s largest markets: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Singapore. Gojek and Tokopedia have agreed to combine in May 2021 to become the GoTo Group. With an estimated worth of US$18 billion, this new company has become Indonesia’s most valuable startup.

Instacart Acquires Smart Cart Startup – CONVENIENCE.ORG

 

Caper AI, a startup tech company that develops smart grocery carts, has been bought by Instacart. Amazon’s Dash Cart and A2Z Smart Technologies’ Cust2Mate are competitors for the company’s carts. Kroger has collaborated with Instacart to provide customers with fresh food delivery in as little as 30 minutes. Cowen Inc. predicts that by 2025, online grocery sales will account for 20% of total grocery sales.

 

 

Shopee enters France, Spain, and Poland in aggressive European expansion – KRASIA

 

Shopee, based in Singapore, has extended its operations to France by launching a French e-commerce site of the same name. Earlier this month, the company also launched a Spanish version of its marketplace in Spain. Shopee is already the most popular shopping app for Android users in Poland and Spain. According to JP Morgan, 67 percent of French people have bought online at least once. Online sales accounted for 6.7 percent of total retail sales in Spain, with 47 percent of Spaniards purchasing things online.

 

Shopee has established a solid foothold in Brazil since launching local operations in 2019. At the same time, Poland’s e-commerce value is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 10.6 percent from 2019 to 2023. France has the largest e-commerce penetration among these three countries, with online sales accounting for 9.1% of total retail sales between 2019 and 2020.
